thanksgiving yummies

so we celebrated thanksgiving yesterday... it being an american holiday, the swedes had never experienced it, and i found it kinda funny to answer questions like "so... what exactly do you do on this holiday?" and "what do you usually eat?" you never realize the things you just assume must common universal knowledge sometimes, haha! and, the last time i celebrated thanksgiving abroad, it was with a bunch of americans... so it didn't occur to me then, either!

food-wise, we did the typical turkey, gravy, potatoes (but not mashed, because lasse didn't think mashed potatoes would taste good with gravy... !?!?!?!?!?!?! *shaking my head in disbelief*), plus a salad (they are still swedes, after all) , a huge block of parmesan cheese -why? i don't know- and stuffing, which they were also wary of, until they tasted it and realized it's delicious! and grams' classic sticky buns were my mandatory addition, along with forcing them to be eaten with the meal, as opposed to dessert, with coffee afterwards. (again, they were reluctant, until they realized how well they go with a meal!)

i got carried away with the yeast while making the sticky buns... which was a good thing, because they tasted more bread-like than usual (which prolly helped these first-timers), and also resulted in the most massive sticky buns i've ever created!!

and people-wise, they understood the whole "being with your family, and being thankful for each other" aspect, which is good :) it was a small crowd, just the holms, sara, adda and the girls, and inger and frank. but it was pleasantly nice! i still wouldn't trade the gates experience for anything! but then, i am biased :)
x.
